The Department of Environment & Forests, Andaman & Nicobar Administration organised a Workshop on Crocodile Handling, Rescue & Rehabilitation yesterday at the Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, as part of the 72nd Wildlife Week celebrations, 2026. The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge, technical skills and operational preparedness of frontline forest personnel in the safe handling, rescue, rehabilitation and management of crocodiles, with emphasis on both wildlife and public safety.

Inaugurating the programme, Shri Joju P. Alappatt, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), as the chief guest highlighted the importance of technical knowledge, practical skills, teamwork and adherence to safety protocols in crocodile rescue and relocation operations. 

In her welcome address, Smt. Meera Nambiar, Deputy Director, Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, emphasised the importance of continuous capacity building of frontline staff. The workshop witnessed active participation from Forest Guard trainees and frontline personnel from all Territorial and Wildlife Divisions.
